Different containers, different jobs
EXIF commonly carries camera settings, capture time, orientation, GPS, and device details. IPTC is often used for captions, creator, credit, and rights fields. XMP provides an extensible metadata model that many creative applications use.
C2PA is a separate provenance manifest format. A manifest can describe assertions and actions, but a presence check alone is not a trust or authorship conclusion.
Review before sharing
- Remove or confirm GPS and location fields when publishing outside the original context.
- Check creator, copyright, credit, license, and model-release fields against the intended use.
- Keep the original file separately when a workflow needs complete metadata or provenance history.
