A practical image compression workflow

Resize first when needed, choose a suitable format, and verify the downloaded image before replacing the original.

A safe order of operations

  • Keep the original file unchanged.
  • Set the maximum display dimensions before lowering quality.
  • Choose JPG, PNG, or WebP based on transparency and edge detail.
  • Compare the output dimensions, file size, and visible text or edges.

What to verify before publishing

Open the downloaded output in the target application. Check transparency, sharp text, orientation, and any metadata your workflow depends on. A smaller file is only better when it still satisfies the task.
